Marie Dos Santos Samek

I am a wife, wife, mom, songwriter, poet, musician, and lover of the arts. And one without the other would definitely not be me. I come from Central Bohemia, but because my husband is from Brazil, I am part of a beautiful international family.

 

Although I couldn't imagine my life without writing since I was about five years old, I didn't start writing "properly" until 2003 - I was almost 13. Since elementary school, I have welcomed any opportunity to practice and polish my writing style. It's no wonder then that I always had the longest essays and that I even missed the train home from school for a literary competition. Creative writing simply became my passion, and so after graduation I chose to study Songwriting and Scriptwriting at the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory in Prague.

 

My motivation and the big WHY

Well, probably because it was given to me and destined for me. Because once one recognizes one's mission correctly, one cannot continue in any other way. My mission in the field of authorship is to express emotions through words and to arouse them in people, to let them experience the catharsis that the ancient Greeks spoke about and to try to return human thinking to basic values for a while... And maybe one day I will even find out that I have made someone's life at least a little bit more pleasant with my words. I hope so.

 

Writing Style

Although I have a wide range of writing, I mostly work in the field of songwriting. My husband and I founded the music project TRADUZINDO, whose main goal is to bridge cultures. I write lyrics in Czech for Brazilian songs (mostly my husband's original works) and then we perform them together in the Czech Republic and Brazil. In this way, our audience and we are discovering more and more how much we have in common, even though each of us comes from a different country, culture, and traditions. And also that through our differences we people can enrich each other instead of eternal competing who is more right.

In the Energy of Words project you will get to know me as an author of travelogues mainly about Brazil and its culture and as a writer of poems.

 

How I'm trying to improve

Since I currently have two little ones at home, my main effort now is more about keeping up the writing habit in general. However, I think motherhood is enough motivation for me to improve my understanding of the children's reading and to put together engaging and quality content for our little ones from time to time. I'm pleased to say that my children are happy to help me with this.

 

My future dreams and visions

The project with my husband Devanil is a major part of my artistic life. We are looking for new ways to get our songs out to the people whether it be through recordings, live performances, or in the future maybe a musical. After all, I often dream of connecting my lyrics more with theatre or film productions on a Czech and international level. I would also like to publish the lyrics you will read on this platform as a book in the future.
