Spring cleaning: Cliché or priceless advice?
Spring is here and with it the eternal cliché about spring cleaning. As soon as the first rays of sunlight start to reveal dust on the shelves and smudges on the windows, we all suddenly feel the need to "tidy up". Whether you call it a habit, a tradition, or a necessary evil, one thing is for sure - spring cleaning is not just about dusting; it's about lightening up your life.
When cleaning changes the face of everyday life
Cleaning isn't just about getting rid of cobwebs in the corners. It's a reboot that we can do at any time, but somehow it has more power in spring. Maybe it's the fresh energy of nature waking up, or maybe it's the fact that we crave change with the new season. And let's face it: A little order in our space brings peace to our minds, too.
You don't have to take it lightly, but maybe a small change of wallpaper, a change of decorations, or just a rearrangement of furniture can work wonders. Especially if you've grown tired of your current surroundings and feel a bit "stuck". The environment we spend most of our time in affects us more than we think, so why not make it fresh and inspiring?
What doesn't serve must go
Holding a sweater you haven't worn in a year and wondering if you'll ever wear it again? Or do you have a cosmetic in your drawer that's expired, but you're sad to throw it away? Stop. If you haven't seen or needed something in a year, it's time to get rid of it. Donate it, sell it, or (in a pinch) throw it in the trash.
This rule doesn't just apply to stuff. Some people in our lives have also long passed their expiration date and just stick to us like clutter in a cupboard. I'm not encouraging anyone to do their "housekeeping" among friends with a trash can handy, but sometimes it's good to reflect on whether some relationships still give us something or if we hold on to them out of habit.
Tidying up at home, at work, and in yourself
Spring cleaning isn't just about the home. How about a desk that's had papers on it for a month that you don't need? Or an email inbox with messages you never reply to? Even the space where we work needs an occasional airing out. Just like our heads. Try to get rid of unnecessary thoughts that only take your energy - old wrongs, unfulfilled expectations, or eternal regrets.
When something leaves, it gives way to a new one.
Whether you're saying goodbye to clothes you no longer wear or people you no longer have anything in common with, you're always making room for something new. That's what spring is all about - a fresh start, lightness, and fresh energy. So, rag in hand, bins within reach (but discreetly, especially if you're going to get rid of people), and hooray!
What's the oldest thing you have at home?
