My name is Marušánek and I was caught by a cat - Water worms are a treat (7.)
On Saturday morning, Hanka and Franta went shopping again. They brought back lots of different things and a flat package for me. Hanka said she was curious to see if I would like it.
They talked about some frozen noodles. They said they couldn't find them anywhere and you could see they were very happy to have them.
I had no idea what it was. They were small frozen rectangles sealed in a plastic tray. It looked strange. I mean, what was supposed to be tasty about this?
Hanka defrosted the strange thing and then added a little water. We ducks have to have all our food soaked so that we can eat it properly. We have flat beaks, adapted to finding food in water, so we can't eat dry food.
I stared at it strangely for a while and didn't want to try it at all. Hanka kept looking at me, as if to ask what I thought, and I looked back at Hanka to see if I really had to, and so we stared at each other for a while until I felt sorry for her and finally tasted it.
It was delicious!
I had never eaten anything so good in my life. They were like miniature water worms. They looked like pieces of thread cut into tiny pieces. That's probably why they're called threadworms.
I ate them all at once and then settled down in my bed to rest after enjoying such a delicious treat.
I kept peeking to see if Hanka would pull out another bone, but she said I'd get it the next day.
At least I have something to look forward to.
